A :ref:`booking <bookings-label>` is a new way to reserve an item. Where a :ref:`hold <holds-circulation-label>` is a reservation that joins a waiting list and is filled as soon as the item is available, a booking is an advance reservation filled for the dates specified.

It is now possible to determine which actions are blocked in the OPAC when a patron's account is expired: placing a hold on an item, placing an ill request, or renewing an item. Previously, the :ref:`BlockExpiredPatronOpacActions <blockexpiredpatronopacactions-label>` system preference was a simple on/off switch. It now allows more flexibility.
